When you visit Modern Dental for your appointments, our dentists may use digital X-rays or other types of digital imaging to more closely examine your teeth and supporting structures. Digital imaging captures high-quality images of your mouth, including the areas between your teeth. In some cases, this technology can even detect cavities or other problems before they become visible!
Some of the dental problems digital imaging is used to diagnose include:
- Tooth decay
- Cysts and abscesses
- Incorrect or unusual tooth root positioning
- Fractures in your teeth and fillings
- Bone loss
- Infection in the tooth nerves
- Developmental abnormalities
Digital imaging changed the way X-rays and other pictures are taken in the examination and diagnostic process. By using digital sensors to capture the pictures, the imaging process is faster and more comfortable. It also makes it easier for you to understand what is happening in your mouth, as the images are often displayed on a nearby monitor. These images are then used to diagnose problems and develop individualized treatment plans that meet your needs.
Digital X-rays are also completely safe for use. They produce 80% to 90% less radiation than traditional film radiography, and they do not require the use of any toxic materials to develop the images.
We invite you to call us at (217) 698-3400 if you have questions about digital imaging. We will be happy to provide you with more information and help you make an appointment with Dr. Morley or Dr. Hamel at our friendly dental office in Springfield, Illinois.
