During your regular dental checkups, our dentists and hygienists will discuss your oral hygiene with you. Maintaining good dental hygiene with a thorough home care routine is the first line of defense against cavities, gum disease and other dental problems.
Maintaining good dental hygiene involves several daily habits:
- Brushing – You should brush your teeth at least twice each day for two minutes each brushing session. It is especially important that you brush before going to bed at night. Use an ADA-approved, soft-bristled toothbrush and a fluoridated toothpaste.
- Flossing – Flossing every day removes food debris and plaque from between your teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. Flossing also prevents harmful bacteria from colonizing in your mouth.
- Nutrition – Maintain a balanced diet. Limit your intake of sugary and acidic foods.
- Schedule and attend your dental appointments – You should visit our dentists every six months. This allows us to monitor your oral health and quickly provide any treatments that you may need.
